Port Charlotte is located 65 miles north of Naples on the west coast of Florida. Altough Florida became a state in 1845, the area was undeveloped for a hundred years. In the midfifties, General Development Corporation aggressively developed the community of Port Charlotte. As a result it became the largest community in Charlotte County.
