Palm Harbor, FL Interesting Information

The region that is now Palm Harbor was mostly uninhabited until the 1860s when settlers began to arrive. Initially known as “Curlew,” it featured the Curlew Pioneer Cemetery, established in 1869, and the Curlew Methodist Church. A post office named “Bay St. Joseph” opened in 1878. In 1881, the influential Henry B. Plant opened the luxurious San Marino Hotel in the area that would become Palm Harbor by 1885.
